Angie Gutierrez is an Assistant Professor of Mexican American and Latina/o Studies at The University of Texas at Austin. She is also a Senior Research Analyst for BSP Research, where she conducts quantitative and qualitative research on Latino political opinion. She worked on Latino Research for the Harris 2024 campaign. Previously, she was an analyst for Latino Decisions, where she also worked on President Biden’s 2020 campaign.
Her book project focuses on group consciousness in the Latino electorate, reconceptualizes the way that group consciousness is measured in survey research, and examines when group consciousness influences political behavior. Focusing on group identity and political behavior, she has published multiple articles on Latino politics and identity that can be found in Political Research Quarterly, Politics Gender and Identities, The Journal of Race Ethnicity Politics, and Forum: A Journal of Applied Research in Contemporary Politics.
In addition to her peer-reviewed papers, she has also authored many reports for the UCLA Voting Rights Project and UCLA’s Latino Policy and Politics Initiative on Latino voting and turnout.
She earned her Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California Los Angeles in 2021 and an M.A. from California State University Northridge in 2014.
